Restaurant
History
The name D’Agnese’s comes from co-owner and founder Franco Boffice’s mother’s maiden name. He owns D’Agnese’s along with Ross Valenti and Rene Hernandez. D’Agnese’s opened its doors in Broadview Heights in March of 2008 after moving from it’s location in Seven Hills. Boffice was originally from Montréal where his father would open traditional Italian restaurants from town to town. Learning to cook the traditional Italian meals from his father, Boffice moved to the Jersey Shore in 1968 where his family opened a restaurant on the Boardwalk.
Moving to Cleveland in the 1980’s, he soon got the ball rolling and founded a restaurant making the same food he had grown up with. Boffice founded the first D’Agnese’s in November of 1989 located on the corner of Broadview and Pleasant Valley. In 1996 the location was moved to Seven Hills. Having over a ten year run in that location the founders felt like it was time to take the restaurant in a new direction improving the asthetics and giving a new feel to the dining experience.
Serving the traditional Italian meals, D’Agnese’s offers a wide selection of specialty dishes, promises the best veal in town, and has a signature creamy lemon sauce featured on a variety of menu items. For the first time diner, Ross Valenti manager and co-owner of the current location, suggests starting off with the calamari fritte, crab stuffed mushrooms, eggplant rollatini, or the artichoke hearts. All of those signature appetizers were created at the first restaurant.
Some of the latest dishes he suggests are the pan seared sea scallops or the stuffed peppers and for the salad course, he recommends the arugula or the field greens salad. Finally for dinner, Valenti believes you cannot go wrong ordering the Zuppe di Pesce, Chicken or Veal Saltimbocca, Braised Lamb Shank, Shrimp Cappellini or anything D’Agnese’s style (with signature lemon butter sauce). The wide selection of signature wines and imported beers are sure to complement any dish available on the menu at D’Agnese’s. Although the taste of society has changed over the last three decades, the traditions of the Boffice family recipes and favorite Italian dishes at D’Agnese’s have stood the test of time.
